Xero Microsoft 365 integration brings live financial data into everyday Office apps. Xero launched the integration on July 1, 2026. It surfaces real-time Xero data inside Microsoft 365, starting with Copilot Chat. The work runs on JAX, Xero’s AI financial agent.
The idea is to stop the constant tool-switching. Users can ask financial questions in Copilot and get answers drawn from live Xero data. Every interaction links back to Xero to finish the task.
Xero Microsoft 365: How the Integration Works
JAX sits at the center of the Xero Microsoft 365 integration. In Copilot Chat, users ask about cash flow, invoices, expenses, or performance in plain English. JAX pulls the numbers from Xero and returns a summary. It can flag overdue payments or name top customers, then link straight to Xero to send a reminder.
The integration reaches further into the Office suite. In Excel, live Xero data populates structured tables for modelling and forecasts, with no manual CSV exports. In Word, it can draft reports with real numbers built in. In PowerPoint, users can build a pitch backed by current financials. Across all of them, Xero stays the source of truth, and links point back for deeper work.
Privacy is built in. Data moves only within the user’s active session. Xero also says its business data is not used to train Microsoft’s Copilot AI models. Access runs through a certified Copilot connector. Users authenticate and grant permission before JAX can read their Xero data.
Why the Xero Microsoft 365 Deal Matters
The launch reflects a wider shift in business software. Specialist platforms are meeting customers inside big workplace ecosystems, rather than making them log into separate tools. Xero calls its approach an AI-native operating system for small businesses, with humans kept in control.
Xero CPTO Diya Jolly said owners keep “switching between tools and losing financial context” when they work outside Xero. The Xero Microsoft 365 integration aims to close that gap. Microsoft framed it as putting real-time, data-backed insights into apps people already use daily.
The move also raises the stakes for rivals. Xero competes with Intuit’s QuickBooks and Sage in small-business accounting. Meeting customers inside Microsoft 365 is a distribution edge that a standalone accounting app cannot easily match.
For accountants and small businesses, the pitch is practical. Fewer exports, fewer copy-pastes, and current numbers wherever the work happens. Xero has signaled more capabilities across the Microsoft 365 suite to come. For now, the deal deepens both platforms’ hold on the small-business workflow.
